Deep Dive: Welcome

Deep Dive

In this unit, we see different issues that have Lima like gender inequality, stray dogs, divorced families, etc. We try to make a sustainable solution and implement it. Then we create a photo exhibition where we show the perfect photographs that represent our topic.

As said before at the beginning of the unit we find out some issues that Lima the capital of Peru have. Then we shared it to the class, and then we chose groups and a problem. My partner Annesofie Vestergaard and I decided to select research on the issue of separated families.

While researching complicated question that we made and researching Peruvians laws about our problems in the Peruvian ministry of women and vulnerable families, the Peruvian ministry of justice and interviewing to the director of a self-management house that gives home and food to children and mothers that are separated called Nellie. We were also learning how to take photographs in a professional camera and learn the different parts of the camera like the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture and trying to learn about the aesthetics of the camera and learning how to show a message with the photograph. For this, the class went to two photos exhibitions MAC and MATE and then we took photographs and learned how to change the message by modifying the image by changing the contrast or shadows. Here you can see some photographs that I took.

After that my partner and I went to the home again called Mamá Victoria there we meet four mothers and many children which the age varied from 2-14 years old. They were all from a separated family and then they told us that the government doesn’t help them; that is why it s a self-management. Then the minister of women send the mother and the children that were abused by their partners and them never no a follow up-program and that make some of the families leave because their partners found them or they get some part of their land by the near by mob and no one helps them.

My coworker and I start to keep on visiting that home to answer our questions and start to make a plan for a sustainable solution so we decided to make a school club so we can go and teach the kids basic studies so them can have the basic learning and have a better future. In this way we can be the follow-up program that may not help them in a 100% but will start to at least help them and give them hope so they can move on and be a better place.

To end this unit we make a photo exhibition where we took pictures in all our visits that we went to that home and began to have a relationship with all the kids by playing games and teaching them. Also having a relationship with the mothers by also teaching them English and we presented these photographs, and we collected money also to support them. Here are some of the photographs:

“Mamá Victoria” is a place that gives hope to the people that lives there and I realize that this is how to start giving them hope.
