WE ARE COLEGIO ROOSEVELT

8th CAS Entry (Service): Intro

Hosting the Community Day

For this CAS experience my learning outcomes are "Identify own strengths & develop areas of growth" and "Demonstrate the skills & recognised the benefits of working collaboratively."

To begin this journey the SBG told me that everyone should host at least once per year and so because one of my areas of growth is to speak more in public then I said that I will do it in the next one. And so it came, this community day was the last one in the semester and the last in the whole school year. Because it was December I decided to wear a Santa Claus hat so I could Lighten the mood and make the audience laugh more. For hosting the Community day I had a co-host who was a freshman that I never worked before and so we got a script that Mr. Buck gave and so we went to start hosting the community. The audience was a tough one and we both were super nervous but she started to give a motivational speech which inspired us to keep on going and to make me think a way to make the audience laugh. I remeber that past host in assembles they always use a catchphrase when they see the audience is loosing attention and it was "and you know what else is awsome..." and so because we had to say the names of our FDR core values I repeated each time I had to talked "and you know what else is awsome another FDR core value." When I said this the audience started to laugh and I was so nervous that ven though I wanted to change the adjective I kept on using the same one and people were still laughing and my co-host too which make her also loose her stage fright and we both continue more fluently to host the community day infornt of not only highschool, but also middles school, elemenetary school, EC kids, Parents and teachers. This showed me the benefits of working collaboratively, helping each other to make this wonderful presentation.

In the end because Dr. Jacobson couldn't go Mr. Buck told me to say the "We are colegio Roosevelt" slogan and even though I was pretty nervous I realize that I had to overcome my area of growth which was to speak more in public I did it and at that moment I felt my inner Dr. Jacobson and started to say "We are Colegio Roosevelt" slogan with proud we even brought some students, teachers, and staff members to helps us saying it but I was the one who lead us. In the end we all had fun and even Ms. Smith said to me afterwards "And you know what else is awesome... you hosting in the Community Day, congratulations Mr. Huambo!"
